President's Paceline: Upcoming Events

Jane Fletcher | Published on 1/19/2023

I hope your New Year has gotten off to a great  start. We have several upcoming activities that I wanted to get on your radar. First a get together on Bike packing, touring, and bicycle vacationing Friday evening February 10th. Second, in March there will be a one or two day (you choose) club ride to explore the new coastal trail. Read on to hear more about both of these activities. In addition, we have a new weekly club ride that will leave from Bicycle House at 10:30 AM Sunday mornings, check facebook or the web site for any location changes. And, finally, we are working on putting together another multi day ride in South Georgia in April.

Biking Get Together

Join us at Bicycle House Friday, February 10th - 5:30 to socialize and 6:30 to hear about club members’ experiences bike-packing, bike vacationing, and bike touring. Learn what this is all about or get ideas for new destinations. Club members will talk about their experiences and trade information. The club will provide Pizza, Beer and Wine. Please sign up to attend either on the Facebook event or on the event calendar on the CCC website. We need to know how much food and drink to buy.

Choose Your Own Adventure: Exploring the New Coastal Trail

Join Capital City Cyclists in an exploration of the new Coastal Trail March 11th and 12th.  Choose your mileage, choose the number of days and how many connected trails you want to ride.  Cascades Park to the end of the Ochlockonee Bay Trail is 100 miles round trip if you want the longest adventure or choose the shortest adventure of 20 miles round trip with several other mileage options in between starting at different locations. The rides will all be out and back rides to explore 3 connected local trails.

One day options include:

100 miles - Cascades Park to Sopchoppy and return

88 miles - St Marks trailhead to Sopchoppy and return

70 miles - St Marks trailhead to the Oaks and return

52 miles - St Marks Wakulla Station Trailhead to the Oaks and return

44 miles - Hwy 98 and the St Marks trail to the Oaks and return

20 or 26 miles - Medart Park to the Oaks or Mashes Sand and return

Two day options include:

59 miles day 1 and 49 miles day 2 - Cascades Park to Sopchoppy to the Oaks on day 1, the Oaks to Cascades Park day 2

39 miles day 1 and 39 miles day 2 - Southwood to the Oaks day 1, return on day 2

26 miles day 1 and 26 miles day 2 - Wakulla Station to the Oaks day 1, and return day 2

For those wanting a two day adventure we’ve reserved a block of rooms at The Oaks at Ochlockonee Bay. The property was purchased two years ago and renovated very nicely. There is a nice pool and hot tub area to enjoy after the ride. To reserve a room, call Lou at the Oaks. Tell her you are with CCC or Capital City Cyclists. If no answer, leave a message she will get back to you. The phone number for the Oaks is 850 713-0175. Please reserve your room as soon as possible, she can only hold the rooms for a couple weeks and there are a limited number of rooms available. March is prime spring break time. A room with one king or queen bed runs $65 per night.

This will be a semi supported ride. Meaning the club will provide a few snacks at the starting points and drinks and snacks when you arrive at The Oaks Saturday as well as a continental style (yogurt, bagels, coffee and fruit) breakfast on Sunday. Dinner and lunches will be on your own. There are several restaurants along the way as well as within biking or walking distance of the Oaks.
