Kidical Mass is a legal, safe and fun bike ride for kids and their families. The first ride was held in April 2008 in Eugene, Oregon. The purpose of the ride, as stated by the Founders of the movement, is to provide a safe environment for kids and their parents to learn and practice safety skills while also creating awareness of the growing number of cyclists, including children, and supporting their right to use of the road, hence the slogan “Kids are traffic too!”

Tallahassee’s inaugural Kidical Mass ride was on December 11, 2011. The aim of Kidical Mass Tallahassee is to provide a positive cycling experience for the community. Most rides will be organized locally in those parts of town where there is an interested community. Some rides will be organized with a destination in mind, others will be about the journey itself. We also hope to organize Kidical Mass rides in the context of larger events.

Children can ride their own bikes or ride along in trailers, in bike seats, on trail-a-bikes, longtails, tandems, backfiets, etc.  However, bikes with training wheels, tricycles and balance bikes are not recommended for the group ride for safety reasons. On those rides that begin or end in a park, they can be brought along for children to ride at the park.

A few rules to remember:
  • All bicycle riders or passengers under 16 years of age must wear a bicycle helmet.
  • Always follow all traffic laws.
  • Children must be accompanied by an adult. Parents are responsible for the safety and behavior of the their children.

Capital City Cyclists supports our local Tallahassee Kidical Mass chapter to promote fun family bike rides.  Don’t miss the next ride! Follow us at our Kidical Mass Tallahassee facebook page.
