I thought some CCC members would enjoy this quick blast from the past. I’ve been doing some history research for this year’s upcoming 30th Annual Spaghetti 100 on November 9, 2013 and Jim Mann gave me some old CCC Newsletters to look at and I found some familiar names from back in 2000. This particular article is about upcoming “Bicycle Champions”. Even though I wasn’t around in Tallahassee, I have met 3 of these upcoming champions. Zak Ball is still around Tallahassee and one of the quickest guys on a mountain bike I know. David Guttenplan is now one of the top racers in the country, with his own team (AG Bikes/Guttenplan Coaching) and coaching program. Beck Frydenborg, I met through collegiate racing where he went to school and graduated from UF and recently finished grad school at UGA. I unfortunately have never met Chet Smith. Anyways, I thought it was cool to see how these guys have progressed over 13 years. Maybe they’ll comeback and make an appearance at Spaghetti 100!
School is starting back up and we are teaching the Florida Traffic and Bicycle Safety Education Program at the local again starting in September, however we need to make sure the bicycles are safe and up to par. We also have a bunch of Trips for Kids bicycles that need to be repaired, so we are setting up a big Bicycle Repair Day!!
What: Kids on Bikes – Bicycle Repair Day!
When: Saturday, August 24th – starting at 4pm
Where: Capital City Cyclists’ warehouse (direction to be e-mailed to volunteers)
Why: CCC’s kids bicycles are in need of repair and routine maintenance before the school year starts.
How you can help:
-If you know how to repair bicycles – come help out & bring tools
-If you have limited bicycle repair knowledge – come help out, we’ll set you up with basic bicycle maintenance and organization to help us get the job done faster.
-Donate/Loan Supplies: Bicycle Repair Stands, Bicycle Tools (allen tools, screwdrivers, 15mm wrenches, Lube, Rags, 26″inch tubes)
-Spread the word – we have a lot of bikes and can use a good number of volunteers to speed up the process.
Please E-mail Jack Tomassetti at email@example.com if you can help or donate & for directions to the warehouse!

10th annual Nut Roll Bicycle Ride in Albany, GA
Fun filled day of riding, great food and exploring at Chehaw Park Zoo, with an average of 300 riders.
Saturday, September 14, 2013
Chehaw Park, Philema Road, Albany, GA
Options: 30,46,62, and 102 mile loop that takes you through scenic country areas.
The Nut Roll is a fully-supported event. It begins at the Education Center at Chehaw Park. Each ride option, 30, 46, 62, and 102 miles, is a progressive loop that takes you through scenic country areas that are mostly flat with just a few rolling hills and then returns you to the Park. The 102-mile loop will challenge you with several hills.
The 30-mile loop follows pleasant country roads to Leesburg, the first rest stop for all ride options. The route then makes a loop returning to the Park.
The 46-mile loop takes you through Lee County farm country returning via Highway 32 to Leesburg. All loops follow the same route from Leesburg back to the Park.
The 62-mile loop travels through the scenic farm country of Lee County and through two horse farms in Terrell County with a rest stop in Bronwood before returning to Leesburg.
The 102-mile loop leaves Bronwood on a route of gentle hills to the last rest stop at the Welcome Center in Plains. From here, it’s back to Bronwood on a scenic route of rolling hills and then on to Leesburg.
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Division of Recreation and Parks announces a public workshop to which all persons are invited.
